COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT ELECTRIC VEHICLES DEBUNKED
The future of diesel is limited following the government’s recent announcement that sales of petrol and diesel cars will end in 2030. The decision was made to limit the amount of harmful fuels which are released into the atmosphere and contribute towards global warming. With the end of diesel in sight, many people have concerns and doubts over what this all-electric future entails. To put your mind at ease and help you start your electric journey, we will debunk some of the most common myths and misconceptions about electric vehicles.
ELECTRIC VEHICLES PRODUCE AS MANY HARMFUL EMISSIONS AS PETROL/DIESEL VEHICLES
Many people have doubts about just how energy-efficient electric vehicles really are. However, electric cars have been proven to emit fewer greenhouse gases and air pollutants over their entire life cycle than petrol and diesel cars, according to a European Environment Agency (EEA) report.
While emissions are usually higher in the production phase of electric cars, these are more than offset by lower emissions in the use phase over time.
ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE NOT SUITED TO LONG JOURNEYS
You can drive an electric vehicle across the country, as long as you are mindful of finding charging stations in less populated areas. While chargers are typically easy to find in larger cities, they can be sparse in remote areas and along less-trafficked roads. As long as you plan ahead and budget enough time, you should be fine. Electric vehicles can be charged quickly and most EV manufacturers recommend that you stick to between 20-80% battery charge, so based on your driving habits, you’ll want to plug in every three days or so. This means that as long as you are fully charged before you set off on your road trip, your EV will be more than able to cope with any long distances.
THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PUBLIC CHARGE POINTS
While this myth might’ve once been true, as the government is trying to encourage road users to opt for electric vehicles to protect the planet, you will find there are now more than 42,000 charge point connectors across the UK in over 15,500 locations – and this number is only continuing to grow. Not only this but thanks to GE National, you can now charge your car from the comfort of your own home with our EV charger installations so your EV will always be fully charged without the hassle of travelling to a station.
