HOW DO SOLAR PANELS WORK?
Over the last decade, we’ve seen a drastic switch in interest towards sustainable energy sources in a bid to save the environment. With government pledges for all of Britain’s power to be green by 2035, many are turning towards practical ways they can commit to helping the planet. You can reduce your energy consumption and save on electricity bills with help from GE National. As green energy experts with a wealth of first-hand experience in the field, we are proud to install solar panels to both domestic and commercial properties at highly competitive rates.
Read on to learn more about how home solar panels work.
WHAT ARE HOME SOLAR PANELS?
An environmentally friendly way of producing electricity for your home, the technology within solar panels relies on photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity. This electricity is then seamlessly fed into a home’s mains electricity supply as a form of sustainable energy. The efficiency of solar panels has improved greatly in recent years, and they have become increasingly popular within homes as a cost-effective way of producing green energy. Despite their name, solar panels don’t always need direct sunlight as they also work in cloudy or overcast weather.
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
For the solar energy generating process, the photovoltaic cells are bunched together into modules, which make up a large panel. A typical solar panel will contain two thin layers of silicon which have been treated in different ways. When an energy source hits the top layer, electrons fly down towards the bottom silicon layer. This movement causes a current and produces electricity when two metal contacts are added above and below to create a panel.
Typical systems contain 10 to 15 panels and generate roughly 200 to 350 watts of solar energy in sunlight. Because the electricity used for household appliances is alternating current, an inverter is installed to convert this. This electricity can be used either throughout the home or exported to the grid.
SOLAR OPTIONS FOR YOU
The price of electricity has been steadily increasing over the past decade, and installing solar panels can protect against rising power costs since you can produce your own solar energy. There are some basic factors you need to consider when fitting solar panels, including the roof inclination and shade levels. We can travel to your home or site and conduct a full survey for free. We’ll confirm the best place to put your new panels along with our recommendations for any additional energy storage. Once you give us the go ahead, we’ll take care of everything and you won’t pay a penny until we’re done.
At GE National, we understand the importance of going green and can install the infrastructure you need to generate your own electricity. We can fit everything from solar panels to car charging points. You can bid farewell to fossil fuels, reduce your energy bills and ensure the well-being of our planet with green energy. We can also repair and maintain batteries and storage systems, to keep everything working as it should. For more information on the service we provide, please contact us today.
