LOOKING AHEAD: IS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE POSSIBLE?
Now, more than ever, we are aware of the impact that our actions and existences have on the world we inhabit. From the food we eat and the clothes we buy to the cars we drive and the homes we live in, all of our lives affect the planet in one way or another.
Recently, world leaders also announced crucial plans to protect the natural world and halt climate destruction by the end of the decade. This is a huge proposition and relies on significant change from societies across the globe. Of course, change needs to happen on every level, and that includes the ways that each of us goes about our daily lives.
We believe that a green future is possible and feel passionate about helping individuals on their journeys to sustainable existences. But what would a sustainable future look like, and how would we get there?
Here at GE National, we’ve compiled a few ideas that could help us on our collective journey to a greener future. Read on to find out more.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
First things first, our efforts must be focused on making renewable energy a viable solution for homes and businesses across the world. This is, of course, easier said than done but would rely on the implementation of wind farms and solar panels to meet industry and residential requirements.
By making renewable energy accessible to all, we would massively reduce the need for fossil fuel consumption. Not only would this protect the environment, but it would also offer a cost-effective solution for many businesses and homeowners.
CLEAN TRANSPORTATION
Another crucial step on the road to sustainability is clean transportation. It is no secret that diesel and petrol engines produce fumes that are incredibly harmful to the world around us, not to mention the financial implications associated with running and refuelling them. Fortunately, many households and businesses are turning to electric vehicles for their transportation needs.
If every household and business in the UK switched to electric cars and vans, carbon emissions would fall dramatically. What’s more, with electric car chargers available for home installation, the hassle of driving to petrol stations or running out of fuel would be eliminated.
LITTLE CHANGES AT HOME
It goes without saying that a sustainable future will not be achievable without large corporations making significant changes, however, there are little changes we can all make within our homes in an effort to ‘go green’. Among these is the installation of technology, such as air source heat pumps. These incredible devices are just one example of sustainable heating alternatives, drawing warmth from the air outside a building and transferring it to water. This water can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating and more.
