Will this affect my feed in tariff (FIT)?
The Feed-In Tariff (FIT) scheme was introduced to encourage the adoption of renewable energy by offering financial incentives. The scheme is composed of two main components:
Generation Tariff: A payment for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity you generate, with rates varying depending on when your system was installed.
Export Tariff: A payment for the surplus electricity you export back to the grid, typically around 5p per kw

This means you shouldn’t increase the capacity of your system beyond what was initially registered. This includes the array size and the inverter capacity. Documentation: Keep all documentation of the replacement process, including invoices, MCS certificates, and any communication with your FIT provider.
As an example, replacing 16 old 250 w panels with 8 new 460w panels including new rail and hook system and also adding bird edge protection. Replace the old inverter (if needed) adding 5 additional 460w panels with a new inverter would cost around £5,950.00 plus scaffolding if required. This would only take up 26m2 of roof space just 2 more than the original 4 kw and increase your installed capacity by nearly 50%.
